Kathleen M. Foley, MD (Chair)
Dr. Kathleen M. Foley is a pioneering neurologist who has dedicated her career to the treatment of pain in patients with cancer and to advancing palliative care nationally and internationally. A Weill Medical College of Cornell University graduate, she established the first designated cancer pain service in the United States at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She has published over 350 papers, chaired three WHO Committees to advance palliative care in cancer, and was elected a member of the National Academy of Medicine for her research in cancer pain treatment. Diane E. Meier, MD, FACP
Dr. Diane E. Meier is Director Emerita of the Center to Advance Palliative Care, where her leadership tripled U.S. hospital palliative care programs since 2002. A MacArthur Fellow and National Academy of Medicine member, she has published over 200 medical works and authored multiple books. A geriatrician and palliative care specialist, she served as a Health Policy Fellow and received numerous awards including the Gustav O. Justin Baker, MD, FAAP, FAAHPM
Dr. Justin Baker is a national leader in pediatric palliative care. As a physician, researcher, and mentor, he focuses on quality of life, symptom control, grief, and ethics in children with advanced illness. He is the Inaugural Chief of Pediatric Palliative Care at Stanford and Director of the QoLA Program. He has led >100 studies, authored >300 works, and mentored >60 trainees. He received the Hastings Cunniff-Dixon Award and was named an AAHPM Inspirational Leader. READ MORE
Anthony Galanos, MD
Dr. Anthony Galanos is Professor of Medicine at Duke University, where he arrived in 1989 for a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship and remained to establish Duke’s Palliative Care Service in 1998. Known as “Dr. G,” he is devoted to relieving suffering and understanding what matters to patients and families. He leads research on personal and professional grief contributing to burnout, conducts debriefs around difficult deaths, and lectures extensively in the School of Medicine and Department of Medicine. Rodney O. Tucker, MD, MMM, FAAHPM
Dr. Rodney O. Tucker is Director of the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care and the Ritchie Endowed Chair in Palliative Care. Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, he leads efforts to improve care for older adults and LGBTQ+ communities. A former Chief Experience Officer for UAB Medicine, he also serves as Faculty Chair of the LGBTQ Faculty Association. He is a past president of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and maintains a private practice at Magic City Wellness Center. READ MORE
